IMPACT AMR Co-Lead Dr. Laura Richards of The University of Manchester was an invited speaker and panellist at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UN CSW69) at the UN Headquarters in New York from 10 – 21 March 2025.  Laura spoke in an NGO-led session on Women & Economy, arising from collaborations between University of Manchester academics and the Indian Development Foundation, a Mumbai-based NGO holding Special Consultive Status with the UN Economic and Social Council.

In Laura’s talk “Women & Economy: Perspectives from Water, Health & Education”, Laura highlighted initiatives including Indian Development Foundation-led STEMM teacher training in India (in collaboration with Manchester and other partners), reaching > 850 teachers to date, and British Council supported international gender equality partnership projects with Indian, Brazilian and Kenyan higher education institutions.  Laura mentioned IMPACT AMR as one example of initiatives aimed towards more equitable and evidence-based decision support systems, in the case of IMPACT AMR through developing approaches to prioritize interventions to reduce AMR burden across a range of impacts (including often disproportionally gendered inequities).  UN CSW69 was aligned with the announcement of the new Beijing+30 Action Agenda to accelerate progress on women’s rights for all women and girls.
